Inventory Management

Serial number tracking.
Every unit uniquely identified.

Every unit uniquely identified. Know exactly which serial number shipped to which customer for warranty claims, returns, and theft prevention.

Why serial numbers matter.

01

Warranty fraud

Customer claims warranty on a product you never shipped them. Without serial tracking, you can't verify the claim.

02

Return fraud

Customer returns a different unit than what you shipped. Serial tracking catches the swap immediately.

03

Asset tracking

High-value equipment needs item-level tracking. Know exactly where each unit is in your supply chain.

Key capabilities.

Serial numbers are a special case of lot numbers where each lot contains exactly one unit.

01

Scan at receiving

Capture serial numbers when inventory arrives. Each unit gets a unique identifier in the system.

02

Scan at packing

Verify the correct serial number is packed for each order. The system blocks wrong items.

03

Shipment history

Look up any serial number to see which customer received it and when.

04

Return validation

When processing returns, verify the serial matches what was originally shipped.

Common use cases.

01

Electronics

Track laptops, phones, and devices with manufacturer serial numbers.

02

Equipment

Tools, machinery, and equipment requiring individual tracking.

03

High-value items

Jewelry, watches, and luxury goods with certificate tracking.

04

Warranty products

Any product with warranty that requires proof of purchase validation.

FAQ

Common questions.

What's the difference between lot numbers and serial numbers?
Lot numbers group multiple units with shared characteristics (same production batch). Serial numbers uniquely identify a single unit. In Fulfil, serial numbers are implemented as lot numbers where each lot contains exactly one unit.
Can I track serial numbers without scanning at every step?
For warranty validation without full tracking, record serial numbers in shipment notes. The packer scans or notes the serial number on the outbound shipment. When a customer initiates a return or warranty claim, look up the original shipment to verify the serial matches.
Does serial tracking slow down packing?
It adds one scan per serialized item. For high-value products where fraud prevention matters, this tradeoff is worthwhile. For lower-value items, consider whether the protection justifies the additional labor. Many brands only serialize their highest-value SKUs.
