If we have a mixed bag of pre-order and things that are also going to be in the warehouse by the time sales happen or will be landing soon after—we need to make sure our shipments are configured to split accordingly. It comes out of the box with Fulfil's core functionality.

Why Stock Reservations Matter

Wholesale Commitments

You promised 500 units to a retail partner next month. Without a reservation, those units could sell through other channels first.

Promotion Planning

Flash sale starting Friday. You need 1,000 units available when the campaign goes live—not sold through regular channels beforehand.

Backorder Promises

Customer ordered an out-of-stock item. When inventory arrives, it should go to them first—not the next random order.

How Stock Reservations Work in Fulfil

Reservations reduce available-to-sell quantity without moving physical inventory. The stock stays in the same location but is committed to a specific purpose.

Reservation Types

Order Reservations

Automatically created when orders are placed. Stock is committed to that specific order until it ships or cancels.

Channel Reservations

Hold inventory for specific channels. Reserve 200 units for Amazon FBA, or hold back stock from wholesale.

Promotion Reservations

Set aside inventory for upcoming sales events. Release automatically when the promotion starts or manually when ready.

Customer Reservations

Hold inventory for specific customers or accounts. Useful for B2B relationships with committed allocation.

Reservation Example

Physical Inventory
1,000 units
Open order reservations -150
Amazon FBA replenishment -200
Friday flash sale hold -300
Wholesale commitment (Target) -100
Available to Sell
250 units

Common Use Cases

Retail Partner Holds

Reserve inventory for confirmed wholesale orders weeks before ship date.

Pre-Order Management

As incoming shipment arrives, allocate units to pre-order customers first.

Flash Sale Prep

Hold back inventory before a promotion to ensure availability when it launches.

B2B Allocations

Maintain dedicated inventory pools for key accounts with SLA commitments.

Common Questions

How do reservations affect inventory sync to channels?
Reservations reduce the available-to-sell quantity that syncs to channels. If you have 1,000 units and 300 reserved, channels will show 700 available. Reservation changes trigger immediate sync updates.
Can reservations expire automatically?
Yes. You can set expiration dates on reservations. Useful for quote holds ("this price and availability is valid for 7 days") or promotional pre-allocations that should release if the promotion is cancelled.
What happens when reserved stock needs to ship?
When the order associated with a reservation ships, the reservation is consumed. The inventory moves from "reserved" to "shipped" status. If the order cancels, the reservation releases and units become available again.
